Mallie is yanked from her perfect life to move across the United States with her mother and sister. As they drive north, she asks, “Why?” but her mom and weird sister remain strangely silent. It seems that only her dog and memories of her friends back in Florida will keep her company on the way to Oregon. As the trip unfolds, her sister reveals sexual abuse within the family. Still hundreds of miles from home, the family loses all its money and has no place to spend the night. At the same time Mallie struggles with strong emotions and the stirrings of a new awareness.
