Mako dreams of sailing, loves the dog next door, and examines his food before eating.  His best friends warn him away from befriending Derold, a little person in his Geometry class with a deformed ear and well-known belief in UFOs.  When a bully threatens Derold, Mako diffuses the situation with calm respect.  The act of rescue sparks an anti-bullying effort within the school and garners the attention of Patty, the girl Mako likes. However, it also attracts the wrath of a bigger bully.
